Choosing UVA and UVB protections

Lucky Nurul @ 12:58 AM
As you know, UVA and UVB's rays is one of the factor causes aging. That's why, we have to protect our bodies from this electromegnetic waves by choosing the right protector from head to toe.I divided this topic into two categories, protections for eyes and protections for skin.

Choosing the sunglasses to protect your eyes:
There's such a huge selection of sunglasses styles, prices and features that sometimes it's hard to decide which pair is the best. But, choose the best for your eyes because your eyes is the most important.
  1. Choose the sunglasses that's providing protection from ultraviolet radiation, a component of sunlight that contributes to eye disease. According to FDA, the government agency that oversees sunglass manufacture and sales in the U.S., recommends the sunglasses with lenses that block 99-100% of UVA and UVB radiation for eyes protections. The label should read either UV 400 or 100% UV protection.
  2. Sunglasses lenses that wrap around to your temples keep out more light and UV radiation than typical lenses.
  3. Frames with a close-fitting wraparound style provide the best protection because they limit how much stray sunlight reaches your eyes from above and beyond the periphery of your sunglass lenses.
  4. The amount of UV protection sunglasses provide is unrelated to the color and darkness of the lenses. A light amber-colored lens can provide the same UV protection as a dark gray lens. Your optician can verify that the lenses you choose provide 100 percent UV protection.
  5. In addition to sunglasses, wearing a wide-brimmed hat on sunny days can reduce your eyes' exposure to UV and HEV rays by up to 50 percent.
  6. Sunglasses are important especially in winter, because fresh snow can reflect 80 percent of UV rays, nearly doubling your overall exposure to solar UV radiation. If you ski or snowboard, choosing the right ski goggles is essential for adequate UV protection on the slopes.
For your information, not all sunglasses block 100 percent of UV rays. If you're unsure about the level of UV protection your sunglasses provide, take them to your eye doctor or optician for an evaluation. Many eye care professionals have instruments such as spectrophotometers that can measure the amount of visible light and UV radiation your lenses block.

Choosing the sunscreen to your skin.
Choosing the protections for your skin is important to make your skin youthful, elastic and healthy. You can protect your skin from premature aging and skin cancers by using sun protective clothing and sunscreen on exposed areas. However, for a sunscreen to be effective, it must be used correctly. There's a few tips on how you can choose the sunscreens for your skin.
  1. You must select a broad spectrum sunscreen that blocks both UVA and UVB. In particular, choose a sunscreen that includes a good level (around 4% to 5% or more) of zinc oxide (also called micronized zinc), or titanium dioxide, or Parsol 1789 (also called avobenzone) among the list of active ingredients. Dermatologists at Duke University Medical Center have found that microfine zinc oxide is a more effective sunscreen than microfine titanium dioxide. It has been found to be stable, and it doesn't change in composition when exposed to the sun, or combined with other sunscreen agents.
  2. Melaleuca's sunscreen Sun Shades Sport 45+ contains avobenzone, mentioned above, and three other sunscreen ingredients, to best cover the spectrum of the sun's radiation. The salicylates homosalate and octisalate provide protection from UVB radiation, and the benzophenone oxybenzone protects against UVA, while avobenzone provides protection from UVA and UVB (that's why it's called a broad-spectrum sunscreen).
  3. You must choose a sunscreen with a SPF 30 rating or higher – this is the minimum level now recommended by most dermatologists across America. SPF stands for Sun Protection Factor and measures the protection against UVB provided by a sunscreen. Futhermore, according to the Skin Cancer Foundation, an SPF of 15 protects users from 93% of the sun's UVB rays. An SPF of 30 shields the skin from 97% of the sun's rays. SPF 50 provides 98% protection. The Foundation recommends using sunscreen with an SPF of at least30.
  4. Determine the activity you will be doing for the day and apply a product that will meet the task, e.g. water activities mean you should use a waterproof sunscreen. The water-resistant products must be reapplied every 40 minutes and waterproof ones every 80 minutes.
  5. Always choose a sunscreen that feels good on your skin – so you will be comfortable wearing it every day. The best way to be sure you like a sunscreen is to try a small sample on your skin. Once you have found a sunscreen or several that meet these four needs, use it regularly and properly and it will provide excellent sun protection.
  6. Avoid products containing musk, lavender oil, bergamot, sandalwood, cinnamates or the old standard sun protector call PABA (para-amino benzoic acid). Synthetic melanin is ineffective, offering little or no sun protection.
  7. If exercising outdoors or going to the beach, opt for a water-resistant formula. These formulas tend to be stickier and last longer, but they should still be applied every two hours. Try Neutrogena's Ultimate Sport Sunblock Spray SPF 85.
  8. Makeup wearers should invest in a face powder with high SPF, so that they can reapply protection without smearing their foundation or blush. Don’t forget a lip product with SPF too. Remember, lips are particularly vulnerable to sun damage and skin cancer.
    How to apply sunscreen?
    1.  The sunscreen should be applied 20 minutes before going outside to allow it time for it to penetrate or bind to the skin.
    2. You need to use an adequate amount. If you under apply you are likely to get burned - this is probably the most common mistake made by sunscreen users. The recommended level is 2 mg sunscreen/square cm skin. For the average adult needing to cover themselves at the beach, this means using a shot glass full of sunscreen per application.
    3. Even if the label says "all day protection” you should reapply every two hours while outside until sunset. The term "very water resistant" means one must reapply every 90 minutes when swimming, "water resistant" means one must reapply every 40 minutes when swimming.
    4. Do not use old sunscreen. Check the expiration date and throw away old sunscreen.

How UVA and UVB cause Aging?

Lucky Nurul @ 11:35 PM
Have you heard about the UVA and UVB? Let me first introduce the meaning of both words. UV refers to ultraviolet light and it's devided into three types; UVA, UVB and UVC. It is named Ultraviolet means its spectrum has electromagnetic waves with frequencies higher than those that the human eye can identify as the color violet. UVA and UVB. Among UV subtypes, UV subtype A or UVA has the longest wavelength measuring between 320 and 400 nanometers (nm) and has two other wave ranges within at 340 to 400nm and 320 to 400nm. Another subtype is the UV subtype B also known as UVB which has a range of 290 to 320nm. While, UVC radiation, does not penetrate the atmosphere's ozone layer and does not reach Earth makes it less known. For the purpose of skin health, UVC rays are of little or no concern. Nearly 100% of the UVC rays emitted by the sun are absorbed by the ozone layer before the sun's rays ever reach the Earth.
How does this electromagnetic waves can cause aging? As you know, UVA and UVB types are harmful to our skin, damaging its surface and inner structure when taking prolonged sunbaths. UVA damages collagen fibers of the skin there by contributing to the speedy aging of the skin. The UVA damage is deeper, as the UVA rays are longer than the UVB and it reach the inner strata of the skin. They are responsible for causing the skin to lose its elasticity and wrinkling, leading to premature aging of the skin. They also can burn the skin, but at a deeper level. The UVA rays are not at all absorbed by the atmosphere and completely reach Earth.
Mean while, the UVB rays are mostly responsible for most cases of sunburn, as they are shorter than UVA rays and only reach the surface of the skin that is made up of the epidermis layer. The UVB radiation is absorbed by the stratum corneum on the epidermis surface. This stratum corneum is the dead cells layer - the visible layer of the skin. The UVA radiation is partly absorbed and blocked by the ozone layer before reaching Earth.
Futhermore, UV rays can also cause other disorders of the skin besides cancer, such as photoaging, actinic keratoses, lupus vulgaris (tuberculosis of the skin), psoriasis or vitiligo (a discontinuous depigmentation of the skin.) So, protect yourself  from exposing to harmful UV rays of the sun with sunscreen or UV protection for a healthier skin and slow the aging! To read more on how to slow aging, read HERE.

How Stress Affect Aging

Lucky Nurul @ 11:31 PM
Do you know, stress would affect aging? You can read a few causes of aging in my pages : Can we slow the aging process? Scientists have identified the first direct link between stress and aging, a finding that could explain why intense, long-term emotional strain can make people get sick and grow old before their time.Chronic stress appears to hasten the shriveling of the tips of the bundles of genes inside cells, which shortens their life span and speeds the body's deterioration. Let see the correlations between stress and aging could happen:
  • Andrenaline hormone - Stress creates the production of adrenaline, which takes blood away from the skin, sending it to the muscles to give them increased strength to handle an emergency. When you have stress over a long time that release of adrenaline is ongoing and eventually it will leave your skin looking sallow and pale.
  • Affect brain aging - Based on animal models and some human data, the adrenal stress hormone cortisol appears to play an important role in mediating the effects of stress on the brain. "Effects that we know about include impairment of memory, shrinkage of the hippocampus, impaired glucose utilization," he added. "We cannot yet pinpoint specific effects of chronic stress, measured by life events, but we do know that some people age more quickly than others in terms of brain function." Dr. McEwen is the Alfred E. Mirsky Professor and head of the Harold and Margaret Milliken Hatch Laboratory of Neuroendocrinology at The Rockefeller University in New York City.
  • Break out skin -Intense emotion can cause your skin to break out. It can be excitement, frustration, or anger. That's because it stimulates the release of certain enzymes and hormones, which then send signals that cause the sebum to become overproduced, blocking the pores, and next thing you know you have zits.
  • Immunological impairment - Stress can accelerate the effects of aging, with older adults often showing greater immunological impairment to stress than younger adults. Worrying experiences very early in life can alter the responsiveness of the nervous system and immune system.
  • Increasing cortisol - Cortisol is increased following several stress disorders. Cortisol is a hormone secreted by the adrenal glands that are involved in glucose metabolism (energy production), blood pressure control, maintenance of insulin release, suppression of inflammatory responses.
  • Slower removal of dead skin - When you are stressed, the rejuvenation of your skin is hampered. When this occurs dead layers of skin are not sloughed away as quickly leaving room for new skin. That means before you know it you are looking years older than you really are.
  • Degeneration of muscle mass - The research by scientists in the UK and the U.S. have discovered that a protein which responds to stress can halt the degeneration of muscle mass caused during the body's aging process.
  • Stress causes Alzheimeir's disease - Over the course of a lifetime, the effects of chronic stress can accumulate and become a risk factor for cognitive decline and Alzheimer's disease. Several studies have shown that stress, and particularly one's individual way of reacting to stress increases the risk for Alzheimer's disease.
  • Effecting Telomeres -The researchers examined structures inside cells called telomeres. Telomeres are the caps at the ends of chromosomes that carry genes. Every time a cell divides, telomeres get shorter. In the natural aging process, the telomeres eventually get so short that the cell can no longer divide and dies. As more and more cells die, the effects of aging can be noticed. These include skin wrinkles, weekend muscles, eyesight and hearing fade, organ failure, and diminished thinking abilities.
In conclusion, I'd love to share this quote with you all. I pick this from about stress and aging. "They are very useful, but each of them has side effects and, in the case of antidepressants, they are not effective for everyone," Dr. McEwen said. "Lifestyle change is preferable but hard to achieve, yet regular exercise, social support, and finding meaning and purpose in life have benefits that include better mental and physical health and hopefully less reliance on pharmaceutical agents. Programs by government and private agencies that encourage these positive actions can only but help."

All about HGH

Lucky Nurul @ 5:21 AM
Everyone wants to look younger, so do I. That's why, i think we should know how we can keep our 'younger' looks even we grow old. There are a lot of product at the market, selling and telling us that their products can keep the wrinkles away. One of the popular anti-aging products available known as HGH. It could be because HGH promises many benefits, the main being reverse aging. But, what is HGH?
HGH is an abbreviation for Human Growth Hormone that is produced by the pituitary gland in the brain. This hormone stimulates growth and cell production in human beings. HGH is not an anabolic steroid but has similar effects. Anabolic steroids are synthetic substances that do not exist in nature, HGH is made naturally by the pituitary gland in the body. There are advantages and disadvantages of HGH as an anti-aging solutions.

The advantages of HGH are:
  • Conversion of body fat to muscle mass
  • Tissue growth
  • Energy boosting
  • Tissue repair
  • Healing
  • Cell replacement
  • Bone strength
  • Brain function
  • Organ health
  • Enzyme production
The disadvantages of HGH are:
  1. It's quite expensive and the insurance does not cover it.
  2. The patient's pituitary gland becoming lazy (The injections provide the body with a full dose of human growth hormone so the pituitary gland will not need to release its own real HGH)
  3. Acromegaly - A dangerous disease with increased incidence of heart attack and death. Acromegaly causes an unnatural overgrowth of bone in the extremities, forehead, and jaw, as well as other symptoms
  4. Fluid retention
  5. Carpal tunnel syndrome
  6. Painful joints
  7. Gynecomastia (enlarged breasts in males)
  8. Liver damage

How's HGH works?
Maybe some of you know that HGH could be taken in tablet form only, but actually NO. There are a few methods on how HGH can effectively affect our bodies. Let me explain it here.
  • The HGH Injection -
HGH injections are a synthetic substance injected into your body. These injections are typically taken two or three times a day and are very expensive. A single injection may cost as high as $25. Lower doses such as 4-8 IU per week are prescribed and are divided into 2 doses per day for 6 days a week. Patients are taught to give themselves a subcutaneous injection upon arising in the morning and at bedtime. No injections are taken on the 7th day. Learn how to prepare and inject HGH:
  • HGH Oral Spray -
The primary function of the HGH oral spray is to simply increase the quantity of HGH in the body with the purpose of keeping aging at bay. It is sprayed directly into the mouth where it is then absorbed by the membrane of the mouth and delivered straight into the bloodstream where it is then dispersed throughout the body. This method of application is much faster than waiting for tablets to be broken down and metabolized. The oral sprays work just as any other steroid replacement therapy does.
HGH oral sprays repairs and reproduce living tissue such as muscle cells and vital organ cells. The HGH is slowly released in sporadic bursts around 4 – 5 times per day. Major growth occurs during deep sleep, therefore it is suggested that the largest hormone secretions happen while sleeping. Oral sprays are a convenient way of imitating the interval release of the supplemented HGH. The oral spray is a quick and easy method especially for athletes to use and there is not the stigma attached to it like steroids usage.
  • Natural HGH Releasers
Simply put, HGH releasers are amino acids, or blends of amino acids, that form the "building blocks" of our body's own natural human growth hormone. Releaser products typically come in a capsule or spray form, and contain dosages of L-group amino acids, chiefly L-Arginine and L-Glutamine. These are the base components of our body's natural HGH molecule, a fragile amino acid structure made up 191 amino acids. Studies have shown that this method is indeed effective in increasing the levels of HGH in our bodies. These are very much like the vitamins and are taken in tablet form. They need to be taken just before going to bed, as the pituitary gland is most active during sleep.
  • HGH Supplement
Just as you would take a painkiller or vitamin, these pills are easy to swallow, and deliver a time released dosage of HGH straight to the digestive tract. Hence, absorption can occur throughout the day - and hence high HGH levels can once again be attained. Best of all - there are no side effects here, as the ingredients inside the pills are natural. This is, of course, assuming that you choose the right supplement in the first instance. Perhaps the best HGH Supplements currently available in the market is GenF20 Plus. Visit GenF20 Plus websites for more info.

Remember, if you are considering taking a human growth hormone product, make sure that it complies with the FDA guidelines for nutritional supplements, which has very stringent requirements on the maximum amount of allowable somatotropin.

Can we SLOW the aging process?

Lucky Nurul @ 8:29 PM
Yes, we can. It is never too early to develop habits that will slow the aging process. Anti-aging steps are simply the use and development of good lifestyle habits to maintain health and prevent disease. Nutrition, exercise, and attitude all play a role at keeping the aging process a positive one.
Our skin, the biggest organ in our bodies is affected by two different types of aging: intrinsic and extrinsic aging. Intrinsic aging is the rate of aging that occurs with the passage of time. It’s what many people call the aging process and how and when it happens to you is influenced by genetics. While, extrinsic aging on the other hand is the skin’s response to external damage and is controllable to a very large degree by the choices of the lifestyle you make every day.

Most researchers today agree that we can defy aging by revising the typical Western diet and minimizing damage caused by free radicals. Free radicals in the body can damage healthy cells and lead to a variety of life shortening illnesses such as high blood pressure, diabetes and cancer. So, one of the best anti-aging principles is to counteract free radicals and reduce the damage that they do.
The external causes of skin aging are well known and include: sun damage, alcohol consumption, smoking, and inflammation caused by poor diet or bad skin care. Extrinsic skin aging is made worse because your body’s ability to repair itself declines with age. We are all subject to the process of aging and our skin will naturally go through five key changes as we age. Below are the changes of all part of intrinsic skin aging – the natural aging process which will happen whatever we do.

  • Drier Skin – Whatever your skin type, from about the age of 30, less oil is produced by the sebaceous glands every year. So, your skin will gradually get drier.
  • Less melanin – melanin production declines with age. So, from your late thirties onwards, your skin will be less able to fight sun damage.
  • Reduced collagen and elastin – bringing a loss of elasticity and firmness to your skin.
  • Reduced ability to heal and repair skin damage – no problem when you were a child but in your 50’s, this is much slower.
  • Thinner skin – from around 40’s, the dermis and your skin’s fat layer begin to thin producing sagging and loss of plumpness. It will happen first where skin is thinnest naturally which that means under the eyes and around the neck and décolleté.
There are a few things that we can do to slow down the skin aging process:

Protect your skin from UVA or UVB light - Protect yourself from UV radiation, both indoors and out. Always seek the shade outdoors, especially between 10 AM and 4 PM. And since UVA penetrates glass, consider adding flat, tinted UV-protective film to your car’s side and rear windows as well as to house and business windows. Since both UVA and UVB are harmful, you need protection from both kinds of rays. To make sure you’re getting effective UVA as well as UVB coverage, look for a sunscreen with an SPF of 15 or higher, plus some combination of the following UVA-screening ingredients: stabilized a avobenzone, ecamsule (a.k.a. Mexoryl™), oxybenzone, titanium dioxide, and zinc oxide. For example: Clarins UV Plus Day Screen High Protection SPF 40

Stop smoking or inhaling other people’s smoke – Smoke the cigarette can cause the oxidative stress that mutates DNA, promotes atherosclerosis and leads to chronic lung injury. Oxidative stress is thought to be the general mechanism behind the aging process, contributing to the development of cancer, cardiovascular disease, and COPD.

Follow an anti aging skin care regimen – there are a lot of anti aging skin care at the market. Most of the anti aging skin care lines focus on the four steps to good skin care (cleanse, tone, exfoliate and moisturize) and include products that target each step. Moisturizing creams aim to hydrate skin as a first step and also include active anti aging ingredients to deal with skin wrinkling and sagging. Skin care products such as Olay products can renew it outer layer one cell at a time.

Eat a diet rich in vitamins A, C and E - Boost your immunity with vitamins and minerals. The top choices are vitamins A, C, and all B vitamins including biotin, and folic acid. Immune boosting minerals are zinc, copper, iron, and selenium. Add super foods to your diet for healthy intestines. They are full of important vitamins such as vitamins A, C, and E, and high in fiber. High fiber foods protect the intestines and are often passed over as unimportant in a healthy diet. What are the top 10 super foods? Cooked bulgur wheat, black-eyed peas, kidney beans, acorn squash, wheat germ, spinach, broccoli, dry roasted sunflower seeds, whole wheat bread, and baked sweet potatoes. These super foods can also help to lower cholesterol levels.

Avoid too much gat, sugar and salt in your diet - Accessorize your diet for healthy benefits to your heart and overall health. Replace butter with olive oil which contains mono-unsaturated fats that lower bad cholesterol levels. Indulge in healthy teas, either green tea or black, to combat cholesterol and cancer. They contain anti-oxidants, an important defense for overall health. Season with garlic, a powerful food that also lowers cholesterol and helps prevent heart attacks.

Stay slim by balancing calories in and calories out -You can lower your risk for many life-shortening diseases by staying trim. Find an activity that you enjoy and do it 3-5 times a week. Try walking, golfing, dancing, or bowling to burn those extra calories.

Pamper your heart -  to lower your risk of coronary disease and slow down the aging process. The most basic advice is to quit smoking, choose a low fat diet, exercise, and lose extra pounds. For extra coronary benefit, eat garlic and take vitamin E supplements. With doctor approval, consider taking a daily baby aspirin to reduce the chance of clotting. Also, keep watch on blood sugar levels for additional heart protection.

Get enough sleep - Don’t forget to protect yourself from memory loss. The brain works best when you get plenty of sleep, preferable 6-8 hours a day. Practice memorizing to help keep your mind sharp. Keep distractions at a minimum by organizing your home. Taking Ginkgo Biloba can maintain good brain health and help to protect the body against damage from free radicals and also improve mental performance and circulation.

Reduce stress- We should reduce the stress because stress causes a rise in cortisol levels which negatively effects your ability to recall. Try planning ahead, listening to soothing music, spending time with a friend, or watching a funny movie for benefits to your memory. Read more..

Keep your muscles limber and flexible to reduce chronic pain - Regular exercise builds muscle tone, reducing the wear and tear from everyday chores. Take stretch breaks throughout the day to help counteract stiffness and try yoga to eliminate stiff muscles and increase blood flow throughout the body.
  • Lowering the caffein consumption: Caffeine drives the adrenal glands to produce stress hormones that can remain in the blood stream up to 18 hours after consumption. Caffeine-induced stress can produce mood swings and insomnia, increase muscle tension, impair digestion and nutrition, restrict blood circulation to the brain, elevate blood pressure, create blood sugar swings, and accelerate heart rate.
Follow these simple anti-aging tips for whole body protection against life shortening diseases. You’ll enjoy better health, more energy, and be on track for a long, and happy life.
